Culinary Changes on Clement Street
Two popular dim sum spots, Xiao Long Bao and Clement Restaurant have reopened after a brief hiatus. Their return is a relief for locals and visitors alike, especially those looking to avoid long lines at other eateries. Meanwhile, Chino Yang’s at 1820 Clement St. is closing its doors after its owner, Chino Yang cited safety concerns and other factors.
Yang, known for his social media presence and a notable diss track against former mayor London Breed announced the closure on Instagram. He mentioned an alleged incident in March where another local business owner allegedly choked him. “Every day I come to work, I feel my life is in constant danger,” Yang stated. “So, in order to have peace of mind, we decided to let it go for good.” However, Yang clarified that the incident was not the sole reason for the closure, as he had been looking for other businesses to take on the lease since January.
The space will be taken over by Shalva Dzotsenidze chef of Georgian Cheese Boat who is expanding from his first location in North Beach. This means the Richmond District will soon be home to gooey cheese pies with egg, a delightful addition to the neighborhood’s culinary scene.
Retail and Artistic Updates
Golden Edge Pizza at 5351 Geary Blvd. has closed after about five years in business. Longtime residents may remember the space as the original location of Joe’s Ice Cream which has since moved across the street. The future of this location remains to be seen, but it’s sure to be a spot to watch for new arrivals.
In the world of arts, Green Apple Books at 506 Clement Street will host award-winning Bay Area writer Dave Eggers on Saturday, July 25, to promote his new book, Contrapposto. This event is a must-attend for literature enthusiasts. Additionally, the gallery within Park Life is showcasing Jared Silbert’s show “Poppy,” featuring his unique reverse glass paintings of flowers and blue skies. The exhibition runs through the end of the month.
Park Life’s Jamie Alexander will also be speaking at the San Francisco Art Book Fair on Sunday, July 26, at the Minnesota Street Project in Dogpatch. The fair, now in its tenth year, is a significant event for art lovers.
