In the heart of San Francisco, a unique fitness revolution is taking place. At 6 a.m., as the fog rolls in, a bright orange truck stands out among the usual lineup of Priuses and Teslas at the corner of 20th and Church streets. This is not just any truck; it’s a mobile gym, the brainchild of personal trainer Greg Bianchi, affectionately known as Coach B.

Bianchi’s journey in the fitness world began in 2003, but it was in 2026 that he took his passion to the streets with his innovative gymmobile. His vision? To make fitness accessible and enjoyable for everyone, without the constraints of traditional gyms.

The Birth of a Mobile Gym

Bianchi’s love for fitness started during his time as a track-and-field athlete at Arizona State University. After an injury, he transitioned to coaching and earned his master’s degree in sports science and management from the United States Sports Academy in 2006. His career took him to various gyms and coaching roles, including a 19-year stint at the City College of San Francisco.

The idea for the gymmobile was sparked by Bianchi’s desire to break free from the confines of traditional gyms. He recalled, “When I started working at gyms, I really didn’t like the vibe or the feel of them. There were too many rules and restrictions.” This realization led him to create a fitness experience that focused on people rather than rules.

Fitness on the Move

Bianchi’s gymmobile is more than just a truck; it’s a fully equipped fitness studio on wheels. The modified scaffolding in its bed is designed for various exercises, from pull-ups to step-ups. Bianchi and a close friend constructed the structure themselves, incorporating Bianchi’s welding skills and his friend’s creativity.

The gymmobile allows Bianchi to bring his fitness classes to different locations across the Bay Area. From Dolores Park to Ocean Beach, and even to the Liberty Street Steps, Bianchi’s clients enjoy the beauty of San Francisco while working out. His schedule is packed with group workout sessions, personal classes, and corporate fitness classes, catering to a diverse range of clients.

Inspiring a Fitness Community

Bianchi’s approach to fitness is about more than just physical exercise. He believes that “working out isn’t a lifestyle. It doesn’t define you. It’s just something you do to go do stuff that defines you.” This philosophy is evident in his interactions with clients. He is known for his patient instruction, encouraging demeanor, and ability to make workouts fun.

One of Bianchi’s favorite stories involves a heavy rainstorm that almost cancelled a group session. Only one client, Jeremy, showed up, and together they ran from Fort Mason to the Golden Gate Bridge and back, embracing the challenge despite the pouring rain. This anecdote highlights Bianchi’s commitment to his clients and his ability to inspire them to push their limits.

As the sun peeks through the fog, Bianchi wraps up his session at Dolores Park, ready for his next stop at Ocean Beach. His mission is clear: “I want to be the catalyst for people to keep doing what they want to do. No matter how old or young, just keep on going.” With his gymmobile, Bianchi is not just changing the way people work out; he’s changing the way they see fitness.
