A Severe Extreme Heat Watch is in effect for Imperial County West and Imperial Valley in California, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The watch is in effect from 5 October 2026, 23:41 through 9 October 2026, 20:00.
The NWS warns of dangerously hot conditions, with afternoon temperatures expected to range from 104 to 110 degrees. This watch indicates that a period of very hot temperatures may occur, which could increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.
To prepare for the extreme heat, take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening when possible. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments during outdoor work.
