A Severe Red Flag Warning is in effect for Indian Wells Valley, Kern County Desert, and Lake Isabella until 11:00 PM PDT today, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning covers fire weather zones 298, 299, and 595. Winds may exceed 55 MPH in eastern Kern County and 30 MPH at Lake Isabella. Relative humidity is expected to drop to 12-20 percent in eastern Kern County and 25-35 percent at Lake Isabella.

A Red Flag Warning indicates that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or will shortly. Any fires that develop may spread rapidly due to the combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures.

In case of emergency, dial 911. Follow the guidance of the National Weather Service and local authorities. Avoid all outdoor burning and open flames. Properly discard cigarettes and keep defensible space clear of dry vegetation. Be ready to evacuate if necessary.
