A Severe Fire Weather Watch is in effect for Surprise Valley California, Eastern Lassen County, and Northern Washoe County through 9 October 2026, 21:00, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS). The watch is in effect from 7 October 2026, 09:48 to 9 October 2026, 21:00.
This Fire Weather Watch generally indicates conditions that may favor rapid fire growth. Forecast conditions include West winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, minimum humidity between 12 and 17 percent, and expected durations of 2 to 5 hours. These factors could allow fires to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
For safety, call 911 for emergencies and monitor guidance from the NWS and local authorities or emergency services. Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires, and follow local fire restrictions.
