A Severe Coastal Flood Warning is in effect for the Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches through 11 October 2026, 15:00, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS). The warning began 9 October 2026, 14:18 and is classified as Severity: Severe, Urgency: Expected, and Certainty: Likely.
This warning indicates that vulnerable south-facing beaches, especially Long Beach and Malibu, could experience damaging sea-water flooding. High surf of 4 to 7 feet is expected with strong rip currents. High tides of 7.3 to 7.6 feet will be common each morning and significant erosion is expected. A High Surf Advisory is in effect from 6 AM to 10 PM Sunday.
For safety, call 911 in an emergency and follow guidance from the NWS and local authorities or emergency services. Stay off beaches, coastal walkways, roads, and structures and do NOT drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions or stay near occupied lifeguard towers, and stay off rock jetties. Heed advice from local officials and be prepared for conditions that may change.
