The Gold Coast hinterland is the epicenter of a massive search operation following the mysterious disappearance of Daniel Hidden, a renowned magician and mentalist. The 26-year-old was last seen leaving an address on Chelsea Avenue in Broadbeach in the early hours of June 14, setting off a chain of events that has left his family and authorities deeply concerned.
Hidden’s silver Hyundai Santa Fe and Galaxy caravan were discovered abandoned in a car park on Currumbin Creek Road in Currumbin Valley on June 16, but there has been no trace of him since. His phone has been off since 6am on Sunday morning, adding to the growing unease about his whereabouts.
The Enigmatic Disappearance
Daniel Hidden, known for his interactive illusion shows and mind-reading performances, has a website that bears a chilling message: “Transformation requires disappearance.” While the timing of this message is unclear, it has drawn significant attention online as the search for Hidden continues. His family and friends describe him as an experienced hiker who often seeks out challenging routes off the beaten path.
Emma Lane, a family friend, expressed her concerns in an online appeal, stating that Hidden’s phone has been off since 6am on Sunday morning. She also mentioned that his car and caravan were found, but there was no sign of him. The family’s worry has escalated as the days pass without any contact from Hidden.
A Familiar yet Unfamiliar Adventure
Hidden’s brother, Ilya Jamshidi, shared insights into his brother’s adventurous nature. He revealed that while Hidden frequently goes on solo camping trips, it is unusual for him to be out of contact for so long. “He hasn’t taken his phone with him, which is a bit unusual,” Jamshidi said. “A week without contact or shelter, that’s pretty unusual to us.”
The area where Hidden’s vehicle was found is one of his favorite spots. Jamshidi mentioned that his brother has a deep connection to the place, even having the coordinates of a favorite spot tattooed on his fingers. “He’s taken me to this place as well. This is one of his favourites,” Jamshidi said, emphasizing the significance of the location to Hidden.
The Search Effort
The search for Daniel Hidden has mobilized a significant number of resources, including police, State emergency Service (SES) crews, and volunteers. The rugged terrain around Cougal Cascades and Gorge Falls presents a challenging environment for the search teams. The area encompasses more than 20 walking tracks, stretching from the Gold Coast into northern New South Wales.
Acting Inspector Brett Jackson of Queensland Police highlighted the vastness of the search area but expressed hope due to the availability of water in the region. “It is an area where there is an availability of water so our hopes are we can find Mr Hidden,” he said. The Australian Defence Force is also expected to join the search efforts, further intensifying the operation.
The family of Daniel Hidden is urging hikers, campers, and day-trippers visiting the Gold Coast hinterland to keep watch for any sign of him, particularly in remote areas away from established tracks. “If it seems dangerous or exciting, that’s most likely where he would be,” Jamshidi advised, encouraging volunteers to think beyond obvious routes.
As the search continues, the family remains hopeful but increasingly anxious. Hidden’s mother, Faranak, expressed her belief in her son’s strength and resilience. “He is my son and he is very strong,” she said. “I believe in him, but now it’s more than eight days passed. We need to find him, he needs help.”
