Deputy Nanette Musto Charged with Battery and Assault by a Public Officer

In a disturbing turn of events, a deputy from the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office has been charged with battery and assault by a public officer. The allegations stem from an incident involving an incarcerated woman at County Jail 2. This case adds to a growing list of concerns regarding the conduct of deputies within the jail system.

The deputy in question, Nanette Musto aged 52, is scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment. The incident, which occurred on July 12, 2026 was reportedly captured on jail surveillance cameras. According to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, rumors had circulated within the jail that the woman had undergone surgical augmentation.

Incident Details and Investigative Process

Deputy Musto allegedly asked the incarcerated woman about the rumors and subsequently touched her breast. The incident was thoroughly investigated by the Department of Police Accountability and the District Attorney’s Office. Tara Moriarty a spokesperson for the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office, stated, “The San Francisco Sheriff’s Office takes all allegations of employee misconduct very seriously.”

The Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigations Unit initially probed the allegation before referring the case to the District Attorney’s Office for further review and charging consideration. Deputy Musto has been reassigned pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings. Despite requests for comment, Musto has not responded.

Last fall, a newly hired 33-year-old deputy was terminated following allegations of sexually assaulting a trans inmate.
