A Severe Freeze Watch is in effect for parts of California through 13 October 2026, 10:00, covering Owens Valley North. The watch was issued October 12 at 4:56AM PDT and is in effect from 12 October 2026, 04:56 until 13 October 2026, 10:00, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
A Freeze Watch generally indicates that sub-freezing temperatures may occur and that conditions could be favorable for frost or freeze. In this event, sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 possible is the specific forecast. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing, but these impacts are described as possible, not certain.
For safety, if you are in the affected area, consider protecting tender plants by covering them or moving them indoors and taking steps to prevent water pipes from freezing by wrapping, draining, or allowing them to drip slowly. Follow guidance from the NWS and local authorities or emergency services, and call 911 for emergencies. These steps may reduce the risk of freeze-related harm to vegetation and unprotected plumbing.
